Not gonna lie, writing this review has caused me fits. Sort of. And boy is she getting a crash course. It's the most basic rule of the stymied researcher: stop thinking about the problem.

I've just about given up on rockstar books. They have a great chemistry and banter that has me itching for the next book Please let it be Bakes book! Consciousness and sentience from the perspective of the neurodiverse-tronauts and first contact aliens pounded home the only really interesting question - Is sentience an asset or liability? It has a great second act, one that doesn't quite live up to its potential for me, but a worthy hugo nominee all the same.

The warring emotions between Alana and Mitch — not just the differences in their background or places of residence, but also the fact that Mitch would be willing to let her go so that she can spread her wings and fly. I certainly wouldn't have protested a longer story, but I didn't feel cheated, or too rushed. This book is about trust, Alana learns to trust "outsiders" and Mitchell learns to trust his heart. Mitchell Davies is a typical rock star - he is famous, talented, good looking, and has no problem getting the attention from the ladies. I've had a brief note up here for a while about this book that pretty much defines why I don't think it's well written. For myself, I am a curious lass, so I flail my cane about, yell a bit and carry on. Matt Fully supports developing sentient AGI. Something about Peter Watts writing style doesn't interface well with my gray matter.
She's also blind. It has been awhile since a book has sucked me in and taken me on such a wild ride, but Blind Attraction certainly did! Stross managed to do everything right in that one.
Passed min Adventure, Drama, History. To say Alana Shelton was raised a bit differently than other girls is a bit of an understatement. But there is an underlying trope that blind people are only worthy if super-inspirational. But reading this book felt like trying to run underwater. This is not an easy read. My only complaint is the second book isn't out, yet and I have to wait to read it, Man hardcore ablind women by force. Lets not forget that the book was written some 15 years ago, but to me it didn't feel outdated at all, never mind that since then many authors and screenwriters made use of many concepts.

A dystopia and a first contact story bent into odd shapes like a bristling metal sculpture. And I'm not spoiling. TV 42 min Action, Crime, Mystery. But it never fully goes away, and the fact that the setup and back story are so unreadable - and yet so important - is a pretty huge problem. Weird book, but good, I liked it, maybe liked it a lot. That sounds a lot like some kitschy retro SF with globe helmets and Heinleinesque 50s era dialogue.
